Chapter 26 Karak
Chapter 26 Karak
At the foot of a cliff on the path to promotion,
Across the river, Liu Bei and his men blocked Karak's path!
It has a single horn, red skin, carries a battle axe on its back, and wears only a tattered leather armor.
Her body was engulfed in hellfire, and she groaned in agony amidst it.
"The unicorn, the stench of Avernus, the devil's advocate!"
Facing the devil he had been relentlessly pursuing, Will had nothing nice to say.
Karak, in his agony, turned around, and the two locked eyes. A mental wave connected them, allowing them to glimpse the memories in each other's minds.
"Another unfortunate soul implanted with sperm by a mind-stealer!"
Liu Bei never understood one thing: even though his and Ansel's perception values were the same, Ansel was always able to sense things that he couldn't.
Just like now, he could sense something unusual about Will and Karak's meeting, but nothing else.
Ansel seemed to be able to sense something else as well.
Perhaps he should take some time to have a proper talk with Ansel about this.
Now, he felt that the hunt for the devil should be terminated ahead of schedule, because the woman in front of him, who was engulfed in flames, did not seem to be the kind of utterly wicked person he had ever encountered.
He heard Karak's explanation: "We all have brain worms. I know you can see my thoughts, see the truth. I'm home now, far away from hell. I just want to survive."
Will was in great distress, seemingly rebelling against some kind of willpower: "I will not believe the devil's tricks!"
Even though the sword was drawn, Liu Bei couldn't sense any murderous intent emanating from Will.
Karak, standing before Will, showed no hostility despite Will drawing his sword; she spoke gently.
He gently comforted Will, saying, "We don't need to do that!"
"You don't understand what this means. You don't understand what you're asking me to do!"
Will's expression was somewhat ferocious, as if he was constantly accepting the unacceptable facts.
"Will, although we don't know what happened to you, Karak isn't a completely evil person, right?" Liu Bei walked to Will's side. "You can tell us anything that's bothering you; we're partners!"
"Sorry! I lost my temper. You're right, Karak!" Will looked troubled, as if he had made a very important decision.
"You will know everything tonight."
Having received Will's affirmative reply, Liu Bei turned to Karak and said, "Ms. Karak, there must have been some misunderstanding between you and Will? Perhaps those misunderstandings have been cleared up now?"
After letting go of his inner turmoil, Will's expression became quite cheerful, as if it were no big deal. He said easily, "Karak, perhaps you should introduce yourself. These two are Liu Bei, the paladin from Dagger Beach, and Ansel, the sorcerer. Two kind-hearted fellows! I believe you'll like them!"
"Well, it seems I really need to give you some background information about me. Strictly speaking, we're in the same profession!"
Karak smiled happily. She had already prepared for the worst; if Will insisted on fighting her, then there would only be a fight to the death.
"Stories? I love listening to stories!"
Ansel's eyes lit up when he heard the keywords.
Seeing this, Karak also held nothing back.
She was originally just a despised Tifflin in the Baldur's Gate slums, dreaming of becoming a hero. However, she was sold to Zariel, the High Lord of Hell, and her heart was replaced with a Hell Engine. Because of her bravery in battle, she became Zariel's "personal war dog," specializing in hunting down disobedient demons.
After countless killings and tortures, she seized a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and escaped.
Despite having a mind-stealing tadpole implanted in her brain, she still came back—she came back from hell!
But the pursuers never let her go!
Ansel asked curiously, "Pursuers? Did you cause all this bloodstains?"
Since embarking on the path of advancement, there have been traces of battles along the way, but apart from blood, there were not many corpses on the ground.
"I don't know which road you're referring to, but the bloodstains on this side of the river are definitely my doing! Zariel doesn't like me running away, so she sent a group of Tyr's paladins to hunt me down. I initially thought you were with them!"
"You are the edge-blade who hunts demons, he is a paladin, and there's also a sorcerer with a dangerous aura!"
"I am truly prepared to die in battle!"
"I felt so desperate when I first saw you. I just wanted to live, I wanted to go home, why is that so hard?"
Karak's mood became a little depressed. She had finally escaped from hell, and her home was just around the corner. How could she be willing to die at her doorstep?
She laughed happily, "I was so happy to know you weren't Zariel's pursuers!"
"Can you help me? Help me get rid of those pursuers!" Karak pleaded earnestly.
Upon hearing Karak's request, Liu Bei did not immediately agree.
Karak's sincerity did touch him, but that didn't mean everything Karak said was true. The devil was cunning and treacherous; he didn't have a brain worm and couldn't see Karak's memories.
He was willing to believe Karak, but he was also afraid that the group of "pursuers" were like Will, who had been deceived.
So he replied, "Karak, I will go and see what those people are really like. If they are as you say, I will do everything in my power to eliminate them. If they are also deceived like Will, I will do my best to persuade them, and I hope that you will be able to let go of your hatred then!"
Karak paused for a moment, then cheerfully replied, "As you say! If they are also pitiful creatures blinded by the devil, I naturally won't pursue the matter further!"
But she still said to Liu Bei seriously, "But I must tell you something: whether they were deceived or not, they are also sinners! The collection office on the mountain has now become their stronghold, and they have killed all the people there! And they were burned by the flames on my body and can only curl up there to recover."
"Don't worry, if what you say is true, I will make them pay! This world shouldn't be like this!"
Ansel sensed a murderous intent in Liu Bei's words.
Liu Bei is angry!
He rarely saw Liu Bei angry. No matter when, he always had a calm and collected demeanor and never showed his emotions on his face.
Few things make him angry, and nothing makes him happy.
Except for one thing!
Liu Bei's compassion seems to be a bit excessive!
He hates seeing the strong bully the weak, and he hates even more the indiscriminate killing of innocent people!
Even if the innocent victims of the massacre were Tieflins, who were discriminated against by most people.
The last time I saw Liu Bei angry was when I saw those goblins ambushing Harold and his party near Dragonspear Fortress.
