Chapter 5 Outside the Green Woods
Chapter 5 Outside the Green Woods
With Ansel's assistance, Liu Bei quickly dealt with the last two goblins.
"Liu Bei, over here!"
Liu Bei looked towards Ansel, where the three horses they had brought from Dagger Beach had also been brought by Ansel.
The horses, which were not tethered, scattered during the fighting.
Liu Bei rushed over, mounted his horse, and fled in the direction away from the goblin army.
"Over here."
At a fork in the road, Ansel spurred his horse forward and chose a direction without hesitation.
"Those bastards are heading this way! There's a very strong magical fluctuation here; their destination should also be the woods!"
Ansel explained his reasons for choosing this direction.
Liu Bei followed Ansel silently, adjusting his breathing. After a while, he asked, "Why did you suddenly come here?"
"I ran away after I saw those goblins climb up, but after waiting here for a while, I only saw those three guys, and I didn't see you..."
The sound of horses' hooves and the whistling wind made it difficult for Liu Bei to hear what Ansel was saying, but he could roughly reconstruct the scene. Ansel, who had retreated in advance, saw the trio but did not see himself, so he suspected that he had been abandoned and led his horse back to look for him.
"You have no idea, those three bastards were really too much, they even tried to steal my horse!" Ansel was still complaining.
During their conversation, Ansel suddenly pulled on the reins, and Liu Bei, not understanding why, stopped as well!
"How could I have forgotten about that!" Ansel exclaimed in frustration!
"What's wrong!"
"We've taken a long detour! This road doesn't lead to the woods!"
"And them?"
"They took this path because there's a teleportation array here!" Ansel pointed to the magic array on the side of the cliff that was glowing purple.
"Can we use it?"
"No, we don't know the teleportation sequence for the Emerald Forest teleportation array!"
"In that case, let's turn back and take the right path!" Liu Bei decided decisively. "We're faster than those goblins! We can still make it!"
The two immediately turned back and returned to the fork in the road, taking another path.
"Liu Bei, they're catching up." Ansel glanced unintentionally in the direction they came from, only to see the goblin chieftain, the mage, and several high goblins riding on the backs of dire wolves, charging towards them with billowing dust behind them—the large army that the goblin chieftain had left behind!
"Don't look back! Focus on getting there. Restore your spell slots first! There might be a fierce battle ahead!"
Liu Bei's voice traveled on the wind and reached Ansel's ears.
Ansel stopped looking back upon hearing this, and pretended not to hear about restoring spell slots. He wasn't a mage, he was a warlock! A short rest wouldn't restore spell slots!
But he wasn't in a hurry. He still had plenty of reels in his backpack! He had secretly stolen them from his dad's suitcase before setting off. At worst, he would get scolded by his dad, but that was better than losing his life!
"Damn it!" Ansel suddenly remembered that he still had two Fireball scrolls in his backpack!
"It looks like the campsite is just ahead!"
Liu Bei, riding ahead, saw the thick wooden gate in the woods in the distance, while the three who had abandoned him and run away earlier were now shouting and cursing loudly below the camp!
When Liu Bei and his companion arrived on horseback, they found the thick wooden gates of the camp tightly closed, completely isolating the inside from the outside. On the camp walls, several horned tifiends stood ready with bows drawn!
"Open this damn door!" Eladin yelled from under the door.
"No! No one is allowed to open this door without Sefolo's order!"
"Those damn goblins are chasing us!"
Before Aladdin could receive a reply from above, Liu Bei and his companion arrived at his side.
"Has the Tyflin's lair been destroyed? Why are there Tyflins everywhere I go?" Ansel saw the Tyflins above.
"The goblin vanguard is right behind us. Prepare for battle! This time, you won't have anywhere to run!"
Liu Bei dismounted and said coldly to Aladdin.
Eladin glanced at Liu Bei. "Who are you?"
"Eladin, the paladin who saved us before," Remira whispered beside Eladin.
"So it was you! You managed to escape unscathed, Tyr really did save you!" Eladin showed no remorse whatsoever.
He ignored Liu Bei and continued to shout and curse at Tiflin above, demanding that the door be opened.
Sefro, who rushed over, saw the goblins not far away, and also the people below the camp.
Upon seeing Sefro, Eladin shouted, "The goblins are right behind us! Open the door and let us in!"
Sefro's face was also filled with barely suppressed rage. "You bastard, you deserve to go to the deepest hell! Did you lure the goblins here? Where are the archdruids who were with you? And who are they?!"
Without waiting for Eladin's reply, and suppressing his anger, he shouted to Tifflin beside him, "Gallo, open the door! Let them in first!"
Even as they were talking, the goblin chieftain and his core members, riding their dire wolves, arrived at the front of the camp. The howls of the dire wolves announced their arrival, and without a word, the goblin archers concentrated their fire and unleashed a volley of arrows upon the camp.
The bone arrows fired from the bone bow were not as powerful as those fired from a human bow; most of the arrows only barely landed on the wooden frame of the camp.
But what was completely unexpected was that a few arrows just happened to hit Gallo, who was pulling up the door, and killed him.
With Gallo gone, the camp's wooden gates fell shut once more.
During this time, the goblin archers decisively climbed the high slope outside the camp, and the goblin leader led the bear goblins and goblin warriors to rapidly approach!
The last window of opportunity to enter was completely closed with Gallo's death!
Liu Bei's heart sank; the worst had indeed happened!
"Enough talk, prepare for battle!" Liu Bei drew his twin swords. "This goblin leader has abandoned his main force. While they are separated from their troops, we must work together to take him down, or we'll all die right here at the camp gate!"
Ansel took the reins from Liu Bei and then led the horses to the camp gate to tie them up. This was to prevent the horses from being startled and running away, which would disrupt their battle formation!
After settling the horses, he found a huge rock and stood on it silently.
His preferred spells are all fire-based, which require a casting space. If he knew magic missiles, he wouldn't need to go through all that trouble; he could simply hide behind Liu Bei.
With the dragon scales in hand ready, and one more second-circle spell slot available, he could use Aganathar's Fire Breath spell.
However, these goblins had already witnessed this spell before, so it might not be as effective anymore. Moreover, the goal of this battle was to completely eliminate these little greenskins.
With this in mind, Ansel immediately retracted his scales, as the current situation was more suitable for using the scorching ray!
"Damn it, Bass, Remira, prepare for battle!" Eladin was furious. This shouldn't have happened. If it weren't for that old man interfering with their mission, they wouldn't be in this situation now!
