Chapter 6 Quilton's Snake
Chapter 6 Quilton's Snake
Quilton, an underground town.
This is one of the many towns in the underground city. It's not very big, but its strength is quite impressive.
"My lord, the sinners Rohr, Byrne, and the outsider Annami have already set off."
Inside Lord Vorian's study, Knight Commander Cavill was reporting his mission to Vorian.
Varian kept his head down as he wrote the document, and finally nodded slightly.
"Yes, I understand. How are the Knights' preparations for the relocation going?"
"Preparations are underway, but matters concerning armaments are still under discussion."
"This city-wide relocation is time-sensitive, and the Knights are essential to the journey; we cannot afford to neglect them."
"I see……"
After writing the last word on the document, Vorian looked at the Knight Commander who had not yet left.
"Is there anything else?"
"My lord, regarding the search team..."
"Oh, right, the search team."
Before Cavill could finish speaking, Lord Vorian interrupted him, as if he had only just remembered the matter.
"Have you found the villains who broke the seal?"
Cavill's hands clenched unconsciously, and he took a breath.
"No...they haven't returned yet. I wanted to ask if we could wait one more day?"
"Not back yet?"
Lord Vorian's tone was very calm, as if he had expected it.
"Yes... so, could you...?"
"Didn't I just say it? What was it again?"
Da, da.
Lord Vorian tapped the solid wood tabletop with his index finger, as if he were tapping on the top of Cavill's head, making him tremble involuntarily.
"It must not be neglected."
"Since you know very well that we cannot be negligent, then proceed with the original plan."
"But my wife—"
Cavill was interrupted before he could finish speaking.
"Cavill, my dear Knight Commander Cavill, when did you become so soft-hearted? You know very well how dangerous those Sky Cult villains are. Let me be frank, your knights have most likely already gloriously sacrificed themselves, you understand, right?"
The one who broke the seal, the one who unleashed the demonic tide, the one who wanted to see the sky.
Everyone in Quilton knew how dangerous these madmen were, and it was their madness that forced the entire city of Quilton to relocate in order to escape the demonic tide.
But only Lord Vorian knew that all of this was just a ruse by the Sky Cult. Although Quilton was not a large city, it was not so bad that it had to flee in such a sorry state because of the demonic tide.
The fact that those guys were able to be attracted here shows that the real danger lies in the city of Quilton itself.
Lord Vorian wasn't one of those pedantic fellows who would risk everything for an ancient city; what he wanted was his own Quilton, which he had fought for for twenty years.
"Cavill, after the relocation is over, I will erect statues for them, for these great knights."
Cavill remained silent for a long time, and when he spoke again, his voice was hoarse.
"I understand, my lord."
Varian rose from his seat, walked over to Cavill, and gently patted him on the shoulder.
"I apologize, I misspoke, but my knights, at least they sacrificed themselves for the people of the entire city."
"I see."
After nodding heavily, Cavill slowly raised his head.
"My lord, I shall take my leave."
"Go ahead and make the arrangements."
Cavill bowed slightly, then turned and left the study, each step seeming heavy.
……
A day later, still in the lord's study, the entire city was about to begin its great relocation, and this was the last time Vorian would drink tea in this study.
boom!
Just then, someone burst into the study, kicking the door open. Vorian casually caught a corner of the door, gently put it down, and took a sip of tea as he did so.
"Vorian! You actually dared to send her out! Those two criminals are one thing, but Yanami is innocent!"
The newcomer was a woman dressed in armor, which covered her completely. Behind her was an enormous sword, its surface covered by a cloth.
Her armor was supposed to be white, but it was now mostly covered in dirt, indicating that she had rushed here after just returning from outside the city.
"You're finally back, dear Miss Lorna. Did you get the magic?"
Faced with the other party's aggressive questioning, Varian simply smiled calmly.
"Vorian, why did you let Yanami go out and do that kind of thing?! And you even let her follow two sinners! Yanami is innocent!"
"Innocent? All I know is that outsiders with that kind of power can't stay in our town. Didn't you see her blue hair and eyes? If she wants to stay, she should prove her innocence."
"hehe……"
Upon hearing Vorian's statement, Rolna snorted coldly.
"You can judge everything about her just by her appearance?! Then wouldn't beggars on the street be utterly wicked?!"
But Lord Vorian simply shook his head slightly in response to Rohrna's argument.
"We don't have beggars in our city."
"Because you've been feeding them to stray dogs!"
"you?!"
Bang!
Lord Vorian slammed his hand on the desk. Although he managed to control his strength, the desk still broke in two. But he could just buy more furniture when he got to the new place; he couldn't bring it with him anyway.
Lorna was not intimidated; her eyes behind her armor stared coldly at him. Vorian took two deep breaths, and his furrowed brows slowly relaxed.
"We have no obligation to accept an unidentified outsider during such a dangerous time. Not to mention she is more dangerous than anyone else, as evidenced by her telepathic abilities."
Don't give me those excuses.
"You're just using them to buy time. The so-called appeasement of the dragon is just a pretext; they're just pawns you've tricked! You sent me to retrieve the so-called migration magic just to get rid of me, right?!"
"So, Rorna, have you obtained the migration magic?"
"No, because there's only ruins there!"
Lord Vorian spread his palms, a victorious smile playing on his lips.
"That makes sense. Without migration magic, we had to abandon everything unfavorable in order to relocate the entire city to escape the demonic tide. Whether it's sinners or outsiders. And I'm not lying to you, migration magic is real. If you really obtain it, I will indeed fulfill my promise to accept that child."
Observing Rolna's expression, Vorian continued.
"Lorna, you should know that the fact that she has been able to stay in our city for so long is already a great favor from me. Moreover, I have kept my promise to you and have not let her suffer any harm in the city."
"But don't you know what kind of life she lives?! She's discriminated against by others!"
"But you've never been physically harmed, have you?"
"you--"
Lorna found the man before her utterly repulsive.
"Accepting this mission was her own choice. She's a smart girl, unlike you, Rolna."
Silence fell upon her; Lorna's gaze was colder than any ice magic in the world.
Worry waited quietly, ready to fight at any moment.
However, Lorna did nothing.
"Vorian, you are as disgusting as a snake."
After saying just that one sentence, she turned and left the study.
Watching her departing figure, Lord Vorian took a sip of his cold tea, then looked at the points of light on the dome outside the window and murmured to himself.
"I also hate snakes, I like ants."
………………
As Rolna left the lord's manor, she looked up blankly. Above her was a dome inlaid with countless luminous crystals. She didn't know if those crystals were more dazzling than the stars, nor did she care to think about it.
He had promised her parents that he would protect her, but he never noticed how much discrimination she suffered and ended up leaving her to face danger alone.
Mingming, she is still just a child.
Even though I've already told her everything, why does she still have to go and appease the dragon?
Could it be... that she already knows about my situation?
She remained silent, and no one could see her expression beneath her armor.
"I'm sorry... I couldn't protect you. If I could have lived longer, perhaps I could have protected you and taken you to a place where you could rely on..."
Lorna Valentine, she had already been kissed on the forehead by the devil.
