Chapter 42 Life and Death
Chapter 42 Life and Death
Holding the thick script in his hand, Jiang Youzhen's face turned ashen. "Mom, I've been acting for you for free, and you're still torturing me like this!"
"It's not torture, it's just to make you more famous. The handsome guy persona is very successful. Our director said he wants to add more scenes for you, so how could I refuse?"
Huang Renlei adores her son so much that he's willing to rewrite the script to make him famous, so how could Jiang Jingshu refuse? Although she didn't agree with rewriting the script, she still did it anyway.
Jiang Youzhen wanted to reason with her, but when he saw Jiang Jingshu take a bank card out of her bag, a fawning smile immediately appeared on his face. He said ingratiatingly, "My dear mom, are you planning to pay me my salary for my role?"
Listen to how many twists and turns this one sentence can make. Jiang Jingshu thought that if it weren't for special circumstances, she wouldn't have taken out this money so quickly.
"You're going to make a movie, right? Your dad said you've also decided to write a sequel to the previous cannibal movie. The contract fee and box office revenue won't be deposited into your account anytime soon, so you can keep this money for now. Your salary and commission are all in here."
She handed the bank card to Jiang Youzhen, took a breath, and said, "I originally planned to give you this surprise after the TV series finished airing, but I didn't expect that you would renew your contract to raise funds for the movie."
Jiang Jingshu had another thing on her mind: the child would rather make things difficult for himself than ask his parents for money, which made her feel quite guilty.
After all, she told her son that she was working for free when filming this TV series.
However, based on her understanding of Jiang Youzhen, even if she gave him the bank card, he would probably still decide to sign the contract.
In the New York film market, assembling a film crew is no easy task; it takes time, money, and a lot of manpower and resources.
Although no one in my family has ever been a director, we have produced, written, and acted in films, so we are all familiar with these things to some extent.
The meal quickly turned sour. Jiang Youzhen stared blankly as the three elders rambled on to him. Even if his brain was a sponge, too much water would eventually overflow.
.
Good morning, Yujin-xi.
"It's been a long time, Yoojin-ssi."
"Did the school give us a holiday? This time we should be able to stay for a long time, right?"
The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Jiang Youzhen was woken up by Jiang Jingshu and then set off for the film set. After greeting the crew, he realized that he was the last one to arrive.
Looking again at Joo Ji-hoon and Yoon Eun-hye, the actors had already finished their makeup and changed their clothes and were sitting there waiting.
They truly understood how to live this life of birth and death.
After taking a sip of his bitter iced Americano, Kang Woo-jin walked to Hwang In-rae's room. In China, one has to give face to seniors, especially directors and screenwriters.
But if I had to say, he would be the most senior among these young actors.
It's because he was involved in film production when he was a child.
Even so, Jiang Youzhen still considered himself a junior, genuinely afraid that someone would use these trivial matters as dirt on him and expose them publicly.
'Thump...thump...'
Huang Renlei was adjusting today's shooting schedule when he looked up at the door and saw Jiang Youzhen, whom he had been longing to see. A bright smile immediately appeared on his face.
"Haha, Yoo-jin, you're finally back! Have you had a good rest? I saw the news yesterday, you look great on camera. I'll have the makeup artist fix your hair later."
"Director, it's been a long time," Kang Woo-jin greeted politely, bowing his head. He then picked up a bag from his hand and placed it on Hwang In-rae's desk, smiling as he said, "These are souvenirs I brought back from New York. Director, you must take them home and play with them."
Huang Renlei glanced at the bag out of the corner of his eye and saw that there were quite a few things inside: red wine, tea, some beautifully packaged high-end chocolates, and on top of that, a gold brooch in a transparent package. Each item could be said to be quite valuable.
Having observed the gifts inside in the shortest amount of time, Hwang In-rae's face broke into several more wrinkles with a smile. He affectionately pulled Kang Woo-jin to sit next to him and offered to revise the scenes several times.
Today's social skills have met the standard.
Kang Woo-jin originally only planned to bring a bottle of red wine, but Mads-Oh felt that wasn't enough. He packed all the other gifts himself, using the simplest bag, and the gifts were worth over a million won.
"After all, he's the director. He's responsible for post-production editing and promotion. Your character is already popular with the audience, and now the TV series is breaking ratings records. Giving the director a small gift is just icing on the cake; he'll understand what you mean."
The old man's advice was very effective. It was based on his decades of experience as an actor. Jiang Youzhen only went into the office once, and when he came out, he had two more scenes to film with his co-star.
There were quite a few actors in the crew, and they could tell from Huang Renlei's happy state that the director really liked Jiang Youzhen. Even the male and female leads had to take a backseat to him in front of the director.
Some people will certainly have complaints, but what can they do about it?
Kang Woo-jin was back in work mode on his second day back in Korea. His relentless work ethic gave the rest of the crew a headache.
He didn't want to be gossiped about. Although he couldn't stop people from talking about him, he still had to get involved. Especially with Huang Renlei staring at him with that inexplicable affection and joy on his face, Jiang Youzhen felt a lot of pressure.
Even his parents never looked at him like that! Director, are you really going to make a fuss about this?!
Jiang Jingshu arrived in the afternoon and noticed that the atmosphere in the crew was a bit strange. She quickly found Jiang Youzhen and handed him a folder.
"What is this?"
You'll see when you see it.
Jiang Jingshu's expression was somewhat amused, and her eyes seemed perfectly normal, as if she had discovered something interesting. She even gestured with her chin to signal her son to open the folder.
"Is it some new job again? This TV series hasn't even finished filming yet, Mom..." Noticing Jiang Jingshu's expression, Jiang Youzhen felt a little uneasy as he opened the folder.
But the first thing he saw when he opened the folder was Kim Tae-yeon's personal information. He slammed the folder shut and stared wide-eyed.
"Mom, what...do you mean by this?"
"Last night, your dad told me that our Youzhen is actually a devoted young man."
As she said this, Jiang Jingshu used a joking tone. She was actually quite surprised. Logically speaking, given the open social environment abroad, her son, with his background, wouldn't be considered promiscuous, but he certainly wasn't a hopeless romantic either.
Who would have thought they'd go for a pure love story?
What's the difference between this and a pure white zebra running out from a herd of zebras?
When Jiang Youzhen heard that it was Mads-Oh who betrayed him, he gritted his teeth and cursed under his breath.
That disrespectful old man!
We shouldn't keep his secret!
"Mom, can you and Dad stop worrying about my private life?"
Amid Jiang Youzhen's discontented complaints, Jiang Jingshu waved her hand in agreement, but the smile on her face was impossible to hide.
"Woojin, she's a trainee, and look at her profile, she even has a singer mentor. She's part of SM's girl group debut plan, and she's one of the members. The biggest taboo for idols is dating, and the agency has a rule against it. If you want to pursue her, you're in for a tough time."
...
He knew all this, but he wasn't worried about it.
After all, all he cared about was whether this lousy company was feeding her. She was already short and thin; if she really debuted, wouldn't she look even more haggard?
