Chapter 33 The Servant's Bell
Chapter 33 The Servant's Bell
About ten minutes later, the police slowly arrived at the mental hospital. Then they saw the horrific scene of the sacrifice and a huge amount of cash. The police were utterly shocked, their eyes practically glowing with rage. If it weren't for the bizarre scene, and Lu Ze standing there covered in blood, holding a revolver, these guys might have gone over to "inspect" it thoroughly.
If that's the case, it's hard to say how much cash will be left in the end. After all, even if less money is left, they can just claim that it was "lost accidentally during the investigation."
—The reputation of the Rune police is only so-so, but Luze thinks they are really capable of doing such a thing.
Six or seven minutes later, Dunn arrived in a carriage with Leonard and Frye.
"team leader."
Lu Ze, guarding a large sum of cash, was constantly on edge amidst countless greedy and fearful gazes, until he finally breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Dunn's composed face.
"Two extraordinary individuals attempted to use a ritual to pray to an evil god to bestow a child upon a woman. I killed one, and the other escaped. The one who escaped was named Lanluus; he's a fraudster, he's been in the newspapers, and his portrait should be easy to find." He quickly moved closer to Dunn, succinctly sharing the crucial information. "Lanluus carries the aura of an evil god; he's extremely dangerous. I suggest we pursue him immediately."
After listening to his description and carefully examining the scene, Dunn got up to speak with the police chief in the distance. After a few words, the inspector nodded, ordered his officers to line up, and left.
After sending the police away, Dunn began to deal with the scene.
"Luze, go and talk to the mental hospital and tell them to stay away. Frye and Leonard, you two take the body bags down from the car."
"Yes."
The three responded simultaneously.
Before leaving, Leonard winked at Luzer and said with a smile, "That's the third one! Impressive!"
He was probably saying that Lu Ze had already killed three people.
Do you think I wanted this...?
Lu Ze rolled his eyes at him and walked up to Dr. Wilder.
"Mr. Rondor, you actually have connections with the police! But what exactly is going on?"
"I'm sorry, Dr. Wilder, I can't answer you. Please don't tell anyone about what happened today. Someone will come to ask you about the situation and take your statement in a while," Lu Ze replied. "Also, we need you to clear the area... Oh, and if you could provide a bag, that would be great; we need to put the money in it."
......
After persuading the asylum staff to leave, Leonard and the others didn't rush to put Hood Eugen's body into a body bag. Instead, they stood guard beside the corpse, quietly waiting for something. The sight of several people silently watching a body in the dead of night was truly eerie.
It was like some kind of evil gathering.
Lu Ze thought to himself.
So he followed the example of the others, crossed his arms, and stared at Hud Eugen's corpse.
Before long, specks of gold appeared on the surface of Hud Eugen's corpse. These small points of light detached from the body, floated up, and then converged, forming a vortex-like phenomenon reminiscent of the eye of a storm. Soon, all the golden specks of light separated from the corpse and gathered together. The light gradually intensified, accompanied by a chilling low murmur. Suddenly, a bright light flashed, then dissipated, and an eyeball-like object floated in mid-air for a circle before falling to the ground with a thud.
No, upon closer inspection, it looks like an eyeball. This eyeball has a golden vertical pupil, resembling the eye of a legendary dragon, exuding majesty and power. However, for some reason, the color of the eyeball is not pure; it has a familiar blood-red tinge within the gold.
"It has a decadent feel to it."
Lu Ze sensed it for a moment, then frowned and said, "It should be corrupted by the true creator."
This was the third time he had witnessed such a scene, and he had come to understand to some extent that the extraordinary beings who had died would release their unique characteristics.
"Um."
Dunn agreed, "For someone to cause such a stir simply by extracting traits, this person is probably at least a Sequence 7 Extraordinary."
"Sequence 7? Doesn't that mean I'm the same as the captain?"
Luze was startled. Luckily, he fired without hesitation; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable. However, it was truly foolish of Hud Eugen, a Sequence 7 powerhouse, to be completely outmaneuvered by Lanluus and himself. His death was entirely deserved.
"The captain isn't that weak."
Leonard chuckled, turning to Dunn and asking, "Right, Captain?"
Dunn ignored him, instead taking out a metal cigarette case from his pocket, bending down, carefully placing the eyeball inside, and sealing it with the spiritual wall.
"You can collect the body now, Frye. It's up to you."
He said.
To cover up the secret of the Extraordinary's corpse, they didn't ask the police for help this time and had to handle the scene themselves. The expressionless Frye, who looked more like a dead man than the corpse itself, calmly lifted the gruesome-looking Hood Eugen and placed him in a body bag, his movements practiced and professional.
Seeing that he couldn't get involved, Lu Ze picked up the bag Wilder had given him and turned to put the cash in.
"So much money... Lanius is a damn bastard."
He kept exclaiming as he packed the items. Besides stacks of £10 notes, the pile also included many bearer account deposit slips, drafts, and banknotes, roughly estimated to be worth more than £8 or £9.
After cleaning up the scene, Frye returned to Blackthorn Security with a body and the unconscious Megaius. The others, led by Dunn, began their pursuit of Lanuelus.
Not only them, but because of the level of danger posed by Lanius, Dunn had already instructed the police to notify the other two groups of official Beyonders in Tingen—the Mechanical Heart and the Punishers. Combined with the mobilized police, the entire city of Tingen was bustling with activity that night.
Even after so many people searched almost every corner of Tingen and tried every occult method, Lanius was still not caught. Finally, after a 48-hour citywide manhunt, the Tingen Police Department issued a public warrant for Lanius's arrest on charges of fraud and murder. This man, who had been a prominent figure in the newspapers just three days earlier, hailed as a "representative of young entrepreneurs," quickly reappeared as a wanted criminal, displaying a boomerang-like sense of humor.
Lu Ze's greatest gain in this process was probably the magical item he kept hidden away—the bell that could hypnotize people.
Through private research, he thoroughly understood the function of this extraordinary item. By infusing it with spirituality and shaking the bell in front of the target, the sound produced by the bell could hypnotize the target, making them obey commands. The hypnotic effect was very strong on ordinary people and could last for a long time, but if the target was an extraordinary individual, the effect would only last for a few minutes, and the higher the individual's sequence, the weaker the effect.
Ultimately, Luze named the bell "Servant's Bell".
