Chapter 35 The Banquet Apostle's Potion Making
Chapter 35 The Banquet Apostle's Potion Making
Lucius opened his eyes again and stood in the Materials and Alchemy Room.
Felix had been waiting there for a long time.
He stood in front of the long table, with an open suitcase beside him, containing various material containers neatly stacked inside.
Felix heard a noise at the door, turned around, and his gray-blue eyes beneath his drawn eyebrows held a serious expression.
"Oliver has already told you the details, hasn't he?"
Lucius nodded, walked to the long table, and answered:
"I am ready to be promoted to the position of Feast Attendant Apostle."
Felix stopped wasting words and took out the materials one by one from his briefcase, arranging them on the long table.
First, there are five pure white owl breast feathers, each individually encapsulated in a transparent glass tube.
Then there are red rose petals, 14 in total, each retaining the deep red color it had when it was freshly picked.
Finally, there were three moonstones of different sizes, the smallest being only the size of a fingernail and the largest being about half the size of a fist. The pale white, translucent mineral body had a faint blue light flowing inside.
"These are all standard materials. In order to fully match the mystical symbolism in your mind, I have requested at least three materials for you to choose from."
After he finished speaking, he took out two more items from a hidden compartment at the bottom of the suitcase.
The sealed jar contained three milky-white ivory tusks, each only the length of an adult's index finger, with extremely fine annual ring-like patterns on their surface.
Inside the transparent crystal box were three foxtail lilies arranged side by side, each with five petals and its stamen curled up in the center of the petals, resembling a sleeping little fox.
Felix pointed to the two extraordinary materials and continued:
"Obtaining the regular materials isn't difficult, but... if the ivory powder and foxtail lily don't turn out to be suitable, I'll have to resubmit the application and go through the approval process again, so Lucius, you'll have to choose carefully."
Lucius stepped forward, looked down at the three tusks, and finally chose the middle one as the third tusk. For the foxtail lily, he chose the leftmost one with the most curled petals.
Nothing unexpected happened.
Seeing this, Felix asked Lucius to fetch an appropriate amount of distilled water from the materials cabinet, while he himself processed the ivory that Lucius had chosen into bone meal.
Lucius walked along the aisle between the material cabinets to the water storage area, but unlike last time, he didn't just point to half a bucket.
He measured 500 ml of distilled water with a measuring cup, and by the time he returned to the long table, the bone powder for the third ivory bone had already been prepared.
Felix placed the ivory powder in a jar on the long table and said meaningfully:
"You understood my demonstration last time, right? The same applies to low-level advancement potions. As long as you add the ingredients to the stone pot in the correct order, and finally use the blood of the Blazing One to complete the crimson transformation, you can obtain the correct alchemical product. This time..."
Lucius had a bad feeling. He tentatively took half a step back, but maintained a basic composure on his face.
"Captain, you don't mean you want me to personally concoct the advancement potion, do you?"
"Why not?" Felix retorted.
"This is one of the most fundamental things in the occult. I and everyone in the detective agency, including myself, brew our own potions for advancement."
Lucius was convinced by this reasoning, and he uttered two words in a resigned tone, as if to say, "Fine, you win."
"Let's wander around."
Lucius gasped and poured all the distilled water into the stone pot in a fixed order.
The owl feather chosen was the most complete one, three of the fourteen red rose petals were randomly selected, and the moonstone was of medium size.
As Lucius poured the ivory powder down, Felix began to explain:
"This ivory comes from six-tusked woolly mammoths, which are generally believed to have been active during the Lancaster dynasty of the Fourth Age. They are still occasionally sighted in the frigid highlands of the north."
Their six white teeth were originally a symbol of their temperament, used to display power, courtship, and territorial disputes.
Later, due to long-term hunting by humans, the appearance of ivory changed from a heart-shaped appearance to a cup-shaped appearance.
After Lucius finished pouring out all the ivory and bone powder in his hand, he asked:
"Captain, can sexual characteristics be reversed? I thought sexual characteristics were fixed."
"Only the initial nine sexual characteristics are acceptable." Felix didn't elaborate, simply explaining:
"We have seen many instances of sex reversal in our historical records, and the tusks of the six-tusked mammoth are just one of thousands of cases."
Lucius asked no more questions, put on protective gloves, and picked up the foxtail lily.
Felix cautioned, "The lily of the Lamp phase should be inhuman and rational, but under the feeding of the Lamp-eating Fox-Moth phase, the extraordinary hermaphroditic material, the Foxtail Lily, was born."
Lucius dropped the foxtail lily into the stone pot, and the flower unfolded directly on the surface of the liquid the moment it touched it.
Noisy!
The ingredients in the stone pot that were originally incompatible suddenly began to react violently.
Dark red mist rose from the surface of the liquid, gathering into a swirling cloud of thick fog above the stone pot.
Lucius stood by the pot, and in his reverie, he seemed to see a grand banquet taking place:
A deep red tablecloth covered the long table, and white candles burned in silver candlesticks. Bowls and plates were filled with dishes whose shapes were indistinct but which exuded a rich aroma.
The figures surrounding the long table were indistinct, only the sounds of them raising their glasses could be heard.
Seeing this, Felix splashed the blood of the fiery one onto the flames beneath the stone pot.
The flames suddenly flared up.
As the banquet drew to a close, the indistinct figures began to put down their glasses, wipe their mouths, and push back their chairs as they left one by one.
The apostle who served the banquet pushed open the banquet hall doors, cleared away the scattered napkins and empty plates, pushed the chairs back to their original positions, and restored everything on the table to its pristine state before the banquet began.
We eagerly await the next banquet.
Lucius hurried forward and looked down: the distilled water in the pot had completely boiled away, and all the materials had been carbonized into black powder, with one red crystal standing out.
He scooped it out with a long-handled copper ladle, wiped off the ash, and placed it in his palm.
The crystal's shape was similar to the previously refined sex-detection potion, about the size of a thumb, with a hollow chamber encased in a red crystal.
The difference is that last time, the chamber of the crystal contained a drop of viscous, bluish-black liquid, while this time the flowing blackish-red liquid in the chamber is clearer.
"The potion for advancing a Feast Apostle," Lucius murmured its name.
"Looks pretty good," Felix said, walking over to take a look. After confirming that the potion had been successfully concocted, he began to make the next steps.
"Take the potion. We're going to the Secret Scripture Room now. You can only drink it after the Secret Modification is completed."
Lucius nodded, held the potion in his left palm, closed his eyes, and silently recited "Secret Library" in his mind.
The scene before him blurred rapidly, and after several spins, Lucius found himself standing on the first floor of the library.
Felix walked ahead of him, heading towards the spiral staircase: "Let's go to the second floor."
Lucius followed, listening to the warning coming from ahead:
"Theoretically speaking, there shouldn't be any problems for a person with a dual-phase sequence to absorb the second secret manual. However... for safety's sake, you will still have to absorb the secret manual in a special confinement room, just like everyone else."
Lucius nodded in understanding. After reaching the second floor, he was greeted by an obsidian door that was exactly the same as the one used in the relics storage room.
