Chapter 515: [Crimson Inheritance] (34)
"Let’s go, Silvanus."Elya’s voice didn’t tremble in the slightest. Horror movies really did exaggerate everything. Who would scream just because the power suddenly went out? she thought as she climbed the staircase leading to the third floor without the slightest hesitation.
In a place neither of them noticed, Elya’s shadow seemed to waver slightly. As she walked farther and farther away, her shadow left behind a rapidly stretching black trail across the floor, like spilled ink dissolving into the darkness.
Only after Elya’s and Silvanus’s footsteps had faded into the distance did it begin to move. Wriggling and swaying, it flowed along the wall before finally slipping into Silvanus’s room through the gap beneath the door.
A bubbling sound echoed through the corridor, like a pot of water boiling on a stove, or something struggling desperately to emerge from a surface of thick, sticky slime.
From the bathroom at the end of the hallway, the door began to rot and decay. Clumps of hair, sharp yet strangely supple and agile, crawled out from within like countless tiny serpents.
"Ugh..."
A sharp pain in his abdomen made Silvanus let out a muffled sound. Gritting his teeth, he instinctively pressed a hand against the left side of his stomach. Cold sweat poured down like rain in an instant. The pain was so intense that he could barely continue moving forward.
Elya naturally noticed that something was wrong.
She had been standing a few steps higher on the staircase. Turning around and lowering her gaze, she could clearly see Silvanus’s strained appearance.
Elya narrowed her eyes, the corners of her lips curving upward slightly.
"What’s wrong, Silvanus?"
She asked with concern. Clearly, she hadn’t even done anything yet. Don’t tell me Silvanus was so frightened that he’d given himself a stomachache on the spot?
Silvanus knew exactly what was happening to him, but it shouldn’t have hurt this much.
What exactly—
At that moment, a gust of icy wind suddenly brushed against the back of Silvanus’s neck.
Fear screamed through every nerve in his body. Almost instinctively, he lunged forward, wrapped his arms around Elya, and shoved her backward with all his strength.
In that instant, the creature’s form was reflected in Elya’s eyes.
Its neck stretched straight toward them, seemingly endless in length. Its hollow eye sockets stared directly at them. At that very moment, its mouth opened so wide that it looked capable of swallowing both of their heads at once.
Its mass of hair extended toward them like tentacles, like countless grasping arms reaching out to seize them.
But it was too late.
Silvanus and Elya had already stumbled and fallen onto the floor of the third story.
The creature opened its mouth wide. The countless strands of hair that formed its body writhed ceaselessly, causing its "skin" to flicker and ripple without end.
It let out a furious roar, yet no sound emerged. Only the rushing wind pouring from its throat grew louder and louder.
The mass of hair crawled and twisted relentlessly, nearly covering the entire staircase. It seemed that this was the only way it could express its overwhelming rage. Even so, it did not dare cross the stairs by even a single step.
Silvanus stared at it.
His heart pounded so violently that it hurt, even more than the pain in his abdomen. He couldn’t tell whether it was fear, the shock of narrowly escaping death, or something else entirely.
Only the viewers could see that his eyes seemed to be glowing in the darkness.
The intensity in his gaze was even greater than that of the monster itself.
[Suddenly, I’m not sure who’s hunting whom anymore. Why do I feel like Silvanus is about to jump up and snap this mini-boss’s neck at any moment?]
[Am I the only one who thinks he’s enjoying this?]
[He’s definitely a psychopath, but I like it!]
[Maybe he’s just terrified.]
[Am I the only one looking forward to what’s up here? Even the boss doesn’t dare climb to the third floor. That means there’s something even scarier up here.]
[Is it Daisy?]
[Stop guessing. Daisy’s territory can only be that decaying bathroom.]
[It’s Lord Lethos. It has to be.]
[Everyone else’s objective is to survive for seven days, but Silvanus’s mission is to awaken Lord Lethos! Silvanus, it’s time to meet your destiny!]
At the moment, Silvanus wasn’t paying the comments the slightest bit of attention.
He suddenly shuddered.
Only then did he realize that he had been staring at the grotesque creature in front of him almost obsessively, as though he had lost control of himself. He had even entertained a few disturbing impulses that were difficult to suppress.
A slight frown appeared on his face.
When he turned back to look at Elya, however, the fear on his expression was flawless.
"Elya, are you alright?"
He couldn’t even stand up. All he could do was scoot farther away from the staircase.
That action seemed to completely infuriate the creature.
Its mouth stretched even wider, and in a sudden lunge, it thrust itself forward—
"Aaaaah—!"
Elya nearly lost control and screamed at the top of her lungs. She pressed herself flat against the wall despite having nowhere left to retreat.
She was going to be eaten.
She was going to be eaten.
But almost the instant Elya’s scream rang out, the creature immediately retreated from the staircase and returned to the second-floor hallway without the slightest hesitation.
Elya stared blankly at the scene.
She didn’t even realize how pathetic she looked.
Her face was soaked with tears, her glasses had slipped crookedly to one side, and her entire body trembled uncontrollably from fear.
[The viewers in her livestream keep saying she’s an Heir. Hahaha.]
[An Heir this useless? I’d really like to know which God chose her.]
[Now I understand why that God never shows up.]
[Who’s to say she’s even receiving help from a God? Maybe some unknown creature just latched onto her.]
[She’s like a clown.]
[I’ve always found the way she looked down on Silvanus especially irritating. Looks like her moment finally arrived, hahaha.]
By now, Elya had realized just how foolish she had been.
When the creature appeared, she had been so terrified that she couldn’t think of anything else, let alone make use of the power she had been granted.
Fear mixed with anger, causing her face to cycle through every shade from pale white to flushed red.
She raised her head and discovered that Silvanus was staring directly at her.
For some reason, Elya felt a jolt of unease.
Then she noticed that Silvanus had already stepped forward to help her up.
"That was really dangerous just now, Elya. But you probably shouldn’t have screamed like that."
Being lectured by someone she looked down upon made Elya frown. The hand hanging at her side clenched so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
She had to kill Silvanus.
Before something even more terrifying appeared.
